"The flavor was worth the risk until it wasn't."
Tessa Burke is adventurous but cautious, the type who reads menus twice. In Mumbai she decides to break her own rules and try a vendor’s mystery snack with the hostel crew.
The snack contains peanuts ground into the sauce. A @HostelReaper note on the common room wall reads "Ingredients are clues," but Tessa doesn't see it after the Barcelona sleepwalking fall. Her throat tightens in minutes, and the hostel scrambles too late.
The street food story becomes a warning thread, but the stalls stay busy.

Monsoon Alley’s common room smelled like masala and rain. Tessa stood with the group in front of the night market stall, watching the vendor flip dough into bubbling oil. She read the sign twice and still couldn’t figure out the ingredients. “It’s fine,” Kira said, filming. “The mystery is part of the vibe.”
Tessa had a peanut allergy. She usually carried her kit everywhere, but it was in her locker back at the hostel, buried behind laundry. She told herself she’d be okay. She had just read about the Barcelona sleepwalking death and wanted to feel normal, not cautious. She took the snack.
The reaction started in her throat, a tightness she recognized too late. She coughed, then wheezed. Arjun offered water. Kira kept filming until Tessa's face went pale. They ran back to the hostel, the rain slapping their faces.
The locker key was missing. Someone had moved the lock during laundry day. Tessa’s hands shook as she tried other lockers, her vision narrowing. Arjun searched the front desk drawer. Her breath became a thin whistle. The kit was there, but not in time.
She collapsed on the dorm floor, lips swelling, chest seizing. The paramedics arrived to find the epinephrine pen in her hand, unused. The hostel posted a new sign about allergies and added a label to the shared kitchen. On the wall, beneath a Reaper note, someone wrote: "Death #45. Ingredients are clues."
The night market still buzzed. The vendor still smiled. The snacks still sold out.
